KCMO Office of Culture and Creative Services, a part of the City Manager’s Office, and KC Film + Media Office, a part of Visit KC, introduced a local incentive to the City Council Finance Committee last Wednesday. In the weeks leading up to the meetings, Council Members received a stream of letters of support from area businesses, organizations, and individuals. The committee unanimously voted to send the ordinance through to full City Council for the ultimate vote with a recommendation to pass it.
The result is Kansas City’s first ever filming incentive program. The program is a rebate incentive for qualified KCMO expenditures and once a production is deemed eligible through the application process, the project has the potential to earn up to 7.5% rebate.
