Legislative Update, Jan. 2013

The 97th General Assembly convened Wednesday, JanuaryÂ 9, 2013, with the swearing in of House and SenateÂ members. Tim Jones (R-Eureka) was elected Speaker ofÂ the House and Tom Dempsey (R-St. Charles) was electedÂ Senate President pro tempore. Both Houses have vetoÂ proof majorities.
Committee chairs and members have been announced, andÂ several committees have already begun holdingÂ organizational meetings. Senator Kurt Schaefer, a memberÂ of the MO Film Commission, will continue to chair theÂ Senate Appropriations Committee. Â Another FilmÂ Commission member, State Representative Denny HoskinsÂ (R-54), will chair the House Appropriations â€“ Revenue,Â Transportation and Economic Development Committee.
Statewide officials were sworn into office Monday, JanuaryÂ 14. Governor Jay Nixon is scheduled to deliver his State ofÂ the State/Budget address January 28 @ 7 p.m. If anyÂ money is recommended for the film office, it will be underÂ the proposed tourism budget in the Department ofÂ Economic Development.

March 14 â€“ Spring Break begins upon adjournment; ends on the 25th
28 â€“ Easter Break begins upon adjournment; ends on April 2nd
May 17 â€“ Legislative session ends @ 6 p.m.
